The Wells, Ogunquit, Moody Beach area is known internationally as having miles of the finest beaches in the northeast, and is located directly in the center of York County’s recreational area. From York’s Wild Animal Kingdom to the Funtown-Splashtown Fun Park and Water Slide in Saco, all of York County’s tourist attractions are a short drive from the Wells, Moody, Ogunquit area.
The area also boasts of some of the finest seafood and other dining establishments in Maine. Whether it is for the traditional Maine Lobster Diner, some other seafood delights, steakhouses, ethnic restaurants, ice cream shops and fast food.
Go deep-sea fishing or whale watching in the morning and then be entertained by broadway actors on the stage of the world famous Ogunquit Playhouse just a few short miles away! There are also some of the finest Antique Shops in the northeast here in Southern Maine.
Looking for some time away from the hustle and bustle? Southern Maine has miles and miles of hiking and nature trails for both beginners and experts. The Rachael Carson National Wildlife Refuge has trails that will take you to the salt marsh, though wood where you can observer many species of birds and a variety of wild flowers. See shore birds wade in the coastal waters with herons and egrets to name a few. Also, there is the Wells National Estuarine Research Reserve to visit.
Where can you find some of the most famous lighthouses in the world? Right down the road at Cape Neddick you’ll find Nubble Light, one of the most photographed lighthouses in the world. Up north a short drive, in Cape Elizabeth, you’ll find Portland Head Light, a great half day trip from the beach towns of Southern Maine. Other lighthouses can also be found for those adventurous enough to seek them out.
